Getting around New Orleans without a car is both easy and enjoyable, as long as you are embracing the "no hurry" philosophy. Below are the main transportation options, their costs, pros & cons and such.

Streetcar Lines

The city offers streetcar transportation along both St. Charles and Canal Streets, allowing you to access the Garden District, the French Quarter, City Park and the famous cemeteries very easily.

There are many cars running, and while the wait is usually only about 10 minutes, there are sometimes backups and crowds that require a little more patience.

IMPORTANT: If you take public transportation to City Park for the event, please be sure to give yourself enough time...delays are the norm rather than the exception. We recommend allowing an hour to get from the Quarter to the event location, just to be safe.

Bus Lines

New Orleans does have a good bus network, though travel on them is not nearly as pleasant as the streetcar. Not any more regular than the streetcars, they are sometimes the only option for reaching parts of the city off the main tourist lines.

For guests who choose to stay at the St. Vincent's Guesthouse, right on the Magazine bus route, you are only about a 5-minute ride to the Quarter, so the convenience of this option is a big plus for using it.

Rental Cars

You can pick up any of the major rental cars at the airport, on-site. Please remember if you choose to rent a car that you select a hotel accordingly. Many hotels in the Quarter do not offer free parking and parking restrictions and the chance of vandalism does not make mar rental optimal. You might consider an uptown or Marigny hotel if you plan to rent.

Taxis

Taxis are not as inexpensive in New Orleans as we have seen in other cities. However, they are a much more time-efficient method of travel. We have had great service from United Cabs (504.522.9771), and below you will find a listing of their estimated cab fare between our major events:

Transportation from the Airport

The New Orleans airport is about 20 minutes from the Quarter.

Taxi
Runs $28 for up to 2 people, +$12 for each additional passenger.

Airport Shuttle
$13 per person, one-way. Runs ever 15 minutes. More details: http://www.airportshuttleneworleans.com/

City Bus
The Airport-Downtown Express (E-2) Bus picks up outside airport Entrance #7 on the upper level. Cost is $1.60 to travel to the stop at the Canal/Rampart edge of French Quarter. Runs ever 20-30 minutes, but requires a transfer after 7pm.
