Aside from the obvious reasons, Szazszorszapathy has selected New Orleans for this event because it offers a unique, old-world backdrop for our shareholders to enjoy, filled to the brim with charming places and people. We consider it one of the best vacation spots in the USA, and we find guests to the city are always looking for reasons to come back.

French Quarter Attractions

While many visitors seem to think that Bourbon Street *is* the French Quarter, we avoid it at all costs :) The Quarter is almost 100 square blocks of entertainment, with a wide variety of dining, shopping, historic sites, art galleries, and more. We could wax and wane about the touristy things to do, but quite frankly, we are bad at being tourists...we *live* here and prefer the quieter bits. Below are some of our personal favorites for dining & hanging out.

DINING

Coop's Place - 1109 Decatur Street
Good Cajun food...all the standard dishes at much more affordable prices that Bourbon and with more spice. If you don't see crawfish ettoufee on the menu that day, ask for it - they always have a vat of it ;) It's a locals spot, sort of a dive place, small and gets REALLY crowded during standard dinner hours. Might want to try it at an off hour, but it’s a must.

Verti Marte - 1201 Royal Street
Grab a quick to-go lunch here. Their Po Boys rock and they are just a corner grocery so very cheap. They do deliver for orders over $10 in the quarter, so consider it if you are exhausted and hungry in your hotel. Nothing like 2 po boys and a 6 pack of beer or bottle of wine delivered to your doorstep :)

Cafe' Du Monde - 800 Decatur Street
This is a must but avoid standard breakfast hours. we prefer the middle of the night :) they are 24 hours.

Angeli - 1141 Decatur St
Very tasty and affordable italian/middle eastern food

Napoleon House - 500 Chartres Street
This place can be pricey for dinner, but the we *really* like to hit it around 3 or 4pm, order a half carafe of wine, a cheese plate and the amazing spinach & artichoke bread bowl, sit in their interior courtyard and enjoy a lazy afternoon. The service can be hit or miss though.

Siam's (upstairs is called Dragon's Den) - 435 Esplanade Avenue Thai food, good appetizers, great atmosphere - floor pillows, low tables, great balcony, often live music

BARS

Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop - 941 Bourbon St.
This is the place Matt is thinking of. It's old as dirt and has great atmosphere. Dark, romantic, mysterious bar.

Molly's at the Market - 1107 Decatur St
Pretty popular local hangout bar. Rarely tourists and usually quite hopping.

Uptown Attractions

Uptown, which consists of Magazine Street and the Garden District, has some interesting attractions.

Exploring the Garden District either on your own or with a walking tour is fun - lots of big, beautiful houses. Stalk a few celebrities, stop by a cemetery, or just enjoy the walk.

Magazine Street has several pockets of fabulous shopping and antique shops.

Locals folks, if you have any good dining, sightseeing,or bar suggestions, let us know and we will add them!

City Park Attractions

Down the Canal Streetcar line lies the most famous cemeteries and City Park, where the Szazszorszapathy events will be held.

City Park.

We encourage you to head down to the park early and enjoy it! With beautiful tree lined paths of old live oaks dripping with spanish moss, there is a lot of nature to enjoy - they boast over 14,000 mature trees :) Take the self-guided tour! The botanical gardens are lovely. The sculpture garden is new and our reception balcony overlooks part of it. The New Orleans Museum of Art is also there.

The Cemeteries.
Cypress Grove and Greenwood Cemeteries are also at the end of the streetcar line, across from the park entrance. Why not enjoy a stroll through this beautiful piece of history? Don't laugh - cemeteries are just for the Goths in New Orleans! They are really very beautiful and well worth checking out.
